Central England Co-operative can today announce the results of its 2017 Board election.

As a member owned and controlled co-operative business, the Society’s members have the chance each year to have their say by voting in the elections to the Board of Directors.

This year voting was required for the election of three board director positions and the successful candidates were:
• Elaine Dean – Central constituency
• Maria Lee – Western constituency
• Paul Singh – Eastern constituency

The three successful candidates have been re-elected to serve for a term of three years and will re-join the board to continue to shape the future direction and strategy of the business and build on the Society’s success.

In addition to these positions, Sean Clothier was re-elected unopposed to the board as an employee director and will also serve for a term of three years.

Jim Watts, Central England Co-operative Society Secretary, said: “On behalf of the Society I would to thank all of the candidates who came forward to stand in the Board election.

“As a strong, independent co-operative business and community retailer, the democratic participation of our members is a key point of difference that sets us apart from other organisations.

“The successful candidates will now turn their attention to helping the Society succeed in its long-term goals, while at the same time maintaining our co-operative values and principles.

“We would also like to thank all the members who took the time to vote and play an important role by participating in the Society’s democratic process.”

The Board of Directors is accountable to the Society’s members and is responsible for the long-term success of the business.  The Board is responsible for setting the Society’s strategy, in consultation with the Chief Executive and the Executive Team.  The Board is also responsible for ensuring that the Society’s affairs are conducted in an effective assurance framework, in accordance with the Society’s purpose and in line with co-operative values and principles.
