Staff at Central England Co-operative Food Store, in Wirksworth, have been honoured by The Royal British Legion for their support during the 2016 Poppy Appeal.

David Champion, member of the Wirksworth branch of the Royal British Legion, visited the Harrison Drive store to thank staff for their part in raising £1,300 during the Remembrance period.

Mr Champion presented the store with a specially created plaque to mark the achievement and the ongoing link-up between the store and the local branch.

Co-operative Store Manager Nathan Burrows said: “We would like to thank everyone involved with the Wirksworth branch of the Royal British Legion for their kind
words and prestigious plaque to mark our support.

“The team and I are extremely proud to receive the Poppy Appeal plaque, which we will display in store for our members, customers and colleagues to see.

“Our thanks goes to the community of Wirksworth and the surrounding areas for their charitable donations and the members who represent the Royal British Legion, for their continuous dedication to an extremely worthwhile charity.”

This is the second year in a row that staff at the Food Store were honoured for their roles in support of the Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal.

Mr Champion said: “We are delighted to present the Wirksworth Co-operative with the RBL Poppy Appeal plaque, for the food stores support and generosity throughout 2016.

“This is the second year we have worked with the Wirksworth store and over two days we collected a record amount of funds which will go a long way.

“We would like to say thank you to Nathan for being a marvellous host and we look forward to this relationship developing in years to come. As a small, yet active, Royal British Legion unit in Wirksworth we are always looking for more members to get involved.”
