How our Community Dividend Fund is improving road safety in Kettering

A special film has been created to showcase a vital Co-op funded project that is teaching youngsters in Northamptonshire about road safety.

Central England Co-op donated £650 to Kettering-based social enterprise BrightKidz to support a campaign that encourages youngsters to walk and cycle to school and teaches them how to do that safely.

The aim of the project is to work with five schools in Kettering to showcase what resources are available to help them talk to youngsters about road safety.

Now a special film has been created to showcase the project and its impact on children in the area.

Alison Holland, from Bright Kidz, said: “Our project is community focused. It will impact children, parents, teachers and everyone who lives or travels around schools.

“If you have got a project that will really help the community then put a plan together, get other people involved and apply for a Central England Co-op Community Dividend Fund grant.”

Grange Primary Academy is one of five schools that are being supported as part of the project funded by the grant.

Lydia Meek, Deputy Head Teacher, said: “We all know that children can be at great risk near our roads and this is why it is really important that we educate them now about being safe.

“It will mean they will become safer pedestrians, drivers and cyclists throughout their lives and also will allow them to pass these skills on to others including their own children one day.

“Also walking, cycling or scooting to school will help keep them fit and healthy, something which is so important.”

People can see first-hand the impact the project has had by watching a specially created film here:
