Society set to take part in Birmingham Pride as part of commitment to equality and diversity

We can today announce that we will be continuing our commitment to equality and diversity by supporting Birmingham Pride.

Colleagues will represent the Society by taking part in the parade at the event on Saturday, 26 May.

The decision was made to support the annual festival after staff discussed the idea during a Facebook Live debate hosted by Central England Co-op on the topic of diversity and inclusion earlier this year.

Kellee Torr, Head of Human Resources at the Society, said: “As a society we are proud to be supporting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community by taking part in Birmingham Pride.

“We have dozens of Food Stores, Funeral Homes and Travel Shops across Birmingham and the West Midlands and taking part in Pride will help to show how much we understand and support our diverse communities and colleagues.

“Pride will be a fun day to celebrate diversity and I hope to see as many of our colleagues there as possible.”

Central England Co-op staff will be wearing specially created rainbow badges and holding rainbow flags during the parade, which will start in the city centre and end in Hurst Street.
