Central England Co-op can today reveal the launch date and give a first look of the progress of its brand-new community store in Norwich.

The Society will officially open its new store in Chartwell Road, Sprowston on Wednesday, 9 September offering the local community food and essentials on their doorstep.

The store will feature self-scan till points, a shared customer car park with electric car charging points, a full range of products, a free hot and cold water refill station, phone charging area and customer toilet.

A food bank collection point will also be installed which will support the great work of Norwich Food Bank as it continues to manage the increased demand caused by the Coronavirus outbreak.

In line with the latest Government guidance, the store will have a range of social distancing measures in place, including special floor markings, one-way system, external queuing, hygiene measures such as a hand sanitising station upon entry and safety devices such as plastic screens at checkouts and face coverings and visors for all colleagues.

Chartwell Road Central England Co-operative Store Manager Brad Tuckfield, who is also a member of the retailer’s Eastern Membership and Community Council (MCC), said: “We are delighted that we will finally be opening the doors and welcoming the community into our brand-new store in Sprowston.

“These are not the circumstances that we ever imagined launching this fantastic new store in, but we are looking forward to being there with the vital food and essentials locals need in these uncertain times and to being a part of a great community in Sprowston.”

The pictures showcase how both the inside and the outside of the store have almost been completed and are ready for thousands of products to be stacked onto the shelves ahead of the official opening.

The car park has been finished, special eco-friendly fridges and lighting have been installed to back up the retailer’s eco-friendly ethos and the store's kiosk is now in situ.

The Chartwell Road Co-operative food store will be open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.

The store will offer a wide range of products from everyday necessities to something a little more special.

This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery offering breads and pastries, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product, Irresistible product ranges, as well as a great selection of food to go.

It will also offer Lottery, Paypoint, Collect Plus and foreign currency, as well as a Costa Coffee machine, customer seating inside and a free cash machine.
