The launch date of a brand new café in Littleover has been confirmed for later this month and it will offer coffee fans the chance to get the ultimate mug shot.

These behind the scenes images show the progress of the new Insomnia Coffee Company outlet which will be housed at the Central England Co-operative food store in Burton Road, Littleover and is set to launch on Friday, August 28 creating five new jobs.

Insomnia is Ireland’s leading independent coffee shop chain where it was founded in 1997 but has been rapidly expanding into the United Kingdom with outlets across the country, including in a number of Primark stores.

Central England Co-operative has chosen Insomnia as their franchise partner, and the Society is delighted to boost its offering to customers and members at its Burton Road supermarket with this new community addition.

As part of the launch, customers will be able to get a coffee with a difference from a special interactive selfie machine where they can choose to have their selfie or even a special message created on the top of their coffee.

Tony Wills, Central England Co-op Store Manager at Burton Road, said: “We are really excited to welcome Insomnia and these behind the scenes images give an idea of what a great new offer will be available for our customers and members.

“It will deliver a high-quality café, offering fantastic Fairtrade coffee and a great selection of sandwiches, cakes and snacks, which will really enhance the in-store experience.

“As a co-operative retailer which takes great pride in its support of the Fairtrade movement and in its record on sustainability and the environment, we are delighted to partner with Insomnia which shares our ethos in both those areas, selling 100% Fairtrade coffee and tea, as well as continually driving to improve its environmental sustainability.

“So, come on down on Friday, August 28 to check out the new café and why not join in the fun and get your very own selfie on a delicious Fairtrade coffee.”

The redevelopment of the Burton Road store to house the new café, will also see the store’s frontage refreshed as part of the project.

The designs for the café, which was originally due to open at Easter but has been delayed by the Coronavirus pandemic and ensuing lockdown, have been adapted to allow for social distancing measures to be put in place.

Harry O’Kelly, CEO of Insomnia Coffee, said: “At Insomnia we are thrilled to be opening our new store in Littleover in partnership with Central England Co-operative, we are sure it will be a popular hub for the Littleover community whether its grabbing their favourite Fairtrade coffee on the go or a welcoming space to catch up with friends and family.”
