Switching to Fairtrade couldn’t be easier. Simply swap out some of the ingredients from your favourite recipes and start cooking with a conscience.

Try our tea, coffee, drinking chocolate and cocoa. Choose a bottle (or two) from our great selection of wines. Add bananas, sugar, honey and granola to your basket. Bananas are the UK’s most popular fruit. They lower blood pressure, soothe your gut, help you sleep and can lift your mood. And, if they’re Fairtrade, they help build stronger communities.

We were the first British retailer to sell Fairtrade bananas, way back in 2000. All our bananas have been Fairtrade since 2012; since 2018, so are the bananas we use as ingredients.

Every rose colour symbolises something different. Red equals romance; yellow signifies friendship; pink shows appreciation; orange represents enthusiasm (or desire…); white is innocence and lilac means love at first sight. Choose carefully!

We were the first retailer to make every one of our African roses Fairtrade – all 35 million of them, and the first to sign up to the new Fairtrade Sourced Ingredient mark for flowers.

It takes around 600 grapes to make one bottle of wine. In moderation, red wine is said to have many health benefits, including lowering your chances of diabetes or a stroke.

Not only did we create the first own-brand Fairtrade wine, the Co-op Chilean Carmenere, we’re also the largest seller of Fairtrade wine in the world, selling over 50 million bottles.

Lockdown has led to a massive boom in chocolate sales in the UK, but most cocoa farmers have never tasted chocolate.

We were the first UK supermarket to sell own-brand Fairtrade chocolate, and the first to source all the cocoa we use on Fairtrade terms. All our own-brand Easter eggs are Fairtrade, plus you’ll find Fairtrade chocolate in our stores from Green & Blacks, Maltesers and Divine.

In Tudor times, sugar was considered to be ‘white gold’, and used as a status symbol amongst the nobility. It was so valuable it was even kept locked away.

We’ve been selling Fairtrade sugar since 2004, and now all the bagged sugar we sell – own brand and otherwise – is Fairtrade.

In the UK, we drink about 95 million cups of coffee per day. Lattes are our favourite, followed by cappuccinos, then flat whites and americanos.

We started selling ethically-traded coffee way back in 1992, switching our entire own brand range to Fairtrade by 2003, a first for any retailer. Now even the coffee we use as an ingredient is Fairtrade.

Tea just pips coffee to the post when it comes to popularity in the UK. 84% of us drink it, and we quaff around 100 million cups per day. That’s almost 36 billion a year!

In 2008, we became the first supermarket to convert all hot drinks to Fairtrade, including our full range of own-brand tea. Since 2018, any tea we use as an ingredient is also Fairtrade.
