That’s quite a lot to think about when you just want to do your shopping, so here are a few easy ways to start.
Local food is better for you. It packs in more nutrition because it’s allowed to ripen naturally, rather than being picked weeks early to be transported. Choosing local also reduces food miles and supports your community. Find out more about some of our fantastic local suppliers.
Choose loose produce and it’ll be easier to avoid the food waste that can come from bulk buying. You’ll find loose veg in every store, and a new ‘Refill Station’ at Boley Park, where you can weigh cereals, nuts, dried fruits, pulses, rice and more into your own containers.
How we’re helping to reduce food waste
Packaging protects food and keeps it fresh. But if you can, choose recycled and recyclable. Our pizzas now have recyclable cardboard trays, cutting 200 tonnes of polystyrene. And we’ll be eliminating single-use plastic from our own-brand products by 2023.
Cut down on meat
Reducing your meat and dairy intake significantly reduces your individual carbon footprint. Plus, you’ll get a whole host of health benefits from more fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans and wholegrains. Start with one meat-free day a week and go from there.
Get a lighter lunch
Have a day off the cheese and mayo. Try a wrap with Gosh! Punchy Sweet Potato Pakora, hummus and rocket. Grab a Food To Go salad bowl or the Pollen + Grace Moroccan Chickpea Immunity Box. Switch to baked or vegetable crisps, and have a least one piece of fruit.
