Bretby Crematorium

Bretby Crematorium is set in attractive woodland grounds adjacent to the A511 Leicester to Burton upon Trent road between Burton and Swadlincote. It provides a peaceful haven for quiet contemplation and remembrance.  The grounds are maintained as natural woodland, with no plaques, memorial stones or rose beds.

Following a recent change in legislation, you can only visit our two crematorium chapels if you have an arranged service that you are attending, with a maximum of 10 mourners at any service. The crematorium is not open for memorial tributes, the collecting or scattering of ashes or visiting the Remembrance Book room.  Our two chapels each have a separate waiting area and covered floral tribute area.

Bretby Crematorium is now offering webcasting of services in an effort to allow everyone who cannot attend services due to the Coronavirus to be able to say goodbye to loved ones they have lost. This offers an alternative compromise when wider family and friends are asked not to attend, to support the restrictions on the number of permitted attendees. The service is subject to availability and a fee applies, as the facility is provided by a support partner. Your local funeral home can include this service in the funeral arrangements. Please also ask the Bretby team for further information, should you wish to learn more.

The webcast service can also be provided as a recording, which may be watched at a later time, which has been welcomed by relatives who live overseas and in a different time zone to the U.K.  The live or recorded services are accessible through a dedicated website, details of which are shared once the service has been requested and scheduled with the Bretby team.

You are welcome to walk through the Bretby Crematorium grounds or garden of remembrance to remember a loved one, during the hours of 9am to 5pm, but you are asked to observe social distancing and to comply with the requests of the Bretby team.

Should Government guidance change, and the crematorium must close, then we will keep any families affected informed of those changes.

Our annual memorial carol service, held for family and friends to remember their loved ones, along with the display of wreaths in the floral court may not be taking place in 2020 as in previous years, due to the need to respect social distancing.  We will continue to monitor the Government guidance.

The Bretby team offers a range of keepsakes and memorials; this includes the Book of Remembrance, which is beautifully inscribed by a calligrapher and the book is housed in a purpose-built chapel.  Although access is not currently permitted, an online Book of Remembrance may still be accessed at any time.
