Bretby Crematorium

Bretby Crematorium is set in attractive woodland grounds adjacent to the A511 Leicester to Burton upon Trent road between Burton and Swadlincote. It provides a peaceful haven for quiet contemplation and remembrance.  The grounds are maintained as natural woodland, with no plaques, memorial stones or rose beds.

To support the continued need for social distancing, you may only visit our two crematorium chapels if you have an arranged service that you are attending.  Following new government guidance, we can welcome up to 30 mourners to services in our Anglesey Chapel and up to 65 mourners to services in our Carnarvon Chapel.  We ask that each person attending a service wears a protective face covering, but we recognise that some people may be exempt from this government requirement for health or religious reasons.

The crematorium is supporting with the collecting or scattering of ashes by appointment only, therefore please get in touch with us so we may mutually agree a date and time for interment.  Thank you for your understanding in lieu of the restrictions that continue to apply whilst the pandemic is part of day-to-day life.

Bretby Crematorium is pleased to offer webcasting of services to allow everyone who cannot attend services to be able to say goodbye to loved ones they have lost. This offers an alternative compromise when wider family and friends are unable to attend. The service is subject to availability and a fee applies, as the facility is provided by a support partner. Your local funeral home can include this service in the funeral arrangements. Please also ask the Bretby team for further information, should you wish to learn more.

The webcast service can also be provided as a recording, which may be watched later, which has been welcomed by relatives who live overseas and in a different time zone to the U.K.  The live or recorded services are accessible through a dedicated website, details of which are shared once the service has been requested and scheduled with the Bretby team.

You are welcome to walk through the Bretby Crematorium grounds or garden of remembrance to remember a loved one, during the hours of 9am to 8pm, but you are asked to continue to observe social distancing and to comply with the requests of the Bretby team. Visits to the Flower Room and Book of Remembrance are available, although this will be people from a single household or a support bubble at any one time. Individual visitors to the two areas will need to wait for current visitors to leave the Flower Room or Book of Remembrance before it is safe to enter.

We will continue to keep families informed of changes that come into effect as we begin to ease restrictions that have been in place during the pandemic.

Our annual memorial service, held for family and friends to remember their loved ones, was shared as an alternative online memorial service on 20 December 2020, due to the continued need to respect social distancing and measures that keep us safe.  A copy of the service is available to watch here

The Bretby team offers a range of keepsakes and memorials; this includes the Book of Remembrance, which is beautifully inscribed by a calligrapher and the book is housed in a purpose-built chapel. Our team is on hand to help you and your family, so do get in touch if you need our support.
