Burton florist offers some top tips on how to bring some festive colours to your garden this winter

Central England Co-operative has put together a quick and easy way of adding some festive colours to brighten up gardens this Christmas.

Sharon Coleman, who works at the Co-operative Florist, in Borough Road, Burton, has crafted a great idea for people to put together this winter.

She said: “Now that winter is here and people have emptied their tubs and containers of their blooming flowers, why not use them to create a beautiful outdoor Christmas arrangement?

“The results should be a personalised and beautiful festive arrangement to brighten up your garden this winter.”

To create this Christmas festive treat, people will need the following:

• Tub or container
• Oasis
• Twigs
• Garden greenery
• Glitter
• Silk flowers
• Baubles
• Outdoor lights

Once you have everything you need, simply follow these few steps:

1. Start the arrangements by filling tubs or containers with wet oasis. If tubs are deep, place some stones in the bottom to use less of the oasis base (but not too many as it will make it too heavy to move).
2. Then arrange garden greeneries into the tub to form the body of the arrangement, creating height and volume and making sure that they are pushed firmly into the oasis. You can also use twigs to create some height in the tub – as an added festive touch why not cover them in glitter or spray paint them a festive colour?
3. Once this has been done place silk flowers, baubles or outdoor, waterproof fairy lights nestled among the greenery to create interest.
4. All of this should take about an hour or so to complete. Once your masterpiece has been created, remember to keep the oasis wet to make sure the greenery will last as long as possible.
