A special celebration event has been held at Chatsworth House as 66 Central England Co-op colleagues were honoured for a combined 2,195 years of service.

The Derbyshire stately home proved a picturesque setting for the event which saw colleagues from all areas of the Society come together to receive their awards for service ranging from 30 to 45 years.

Central England Co-op holds Long Service Awards ever year to thank and reward employees for their hard work, loyalty and service, with an afternoon tea and tour of the house and grounds part of the special day.

Among those receiving an award was Customer Services Assistant John Mullins, who has become a popular and well-known face in Bakewell where he has served customers in his hometown for an incredible 45 years.

The 61-year-old said: “I started at the Bakewell supermarket on 15 October 1974 when I left school at 16. I really enjoy it and like working so close to home and seeing friendly faces every day. I’m part of the furniture now!

“I was proud to receive the recognition and to be part of such a lovely celebration event.”

The 66 colleagues were from all areas of the Society, including Food Stores, Funeral Homes and its Distribution Centre, in Leicester.

Debbie Robinson, Chief Executive of Central England Co-operative, said: “It was a true pleasure to attend my first Long Service Awards at the Society and personally thank such inspirational colleagues who have dedicated their careers to Central England Co-op and to our customers, members and communities.”

Elaine Dean, President of Central England Co-operative, added: “It was wonderful to spend time with so many colleagues who embody the Co-op’s values and principles and who have shown such commitment to our Society. Their level of dedication is incredibly humbling and deserving of recognition.

“I am so very proud to be President of a Society with such a fantastic record of long serving colleagues.”

Other colleagues awarded included Customer Services Assistant at the Brimmington Food Store Susan Brown for 45 years of service and Danica Torbica, Customer Services Assistant at the Alvaston Food Store who was awarded for 40 years of service.
