Staff at Central England Co-operative Funeralcare are gearing up to host events across Birmingham and Solihull as part of an effort to get people talking more freely about dying as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week.

The Society is backing the nationwide campaign that brings bereavement into the spotlight by organising a series of community events in Funeral Homes, local community centres and Food Stores from 13 May to 19 May.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Are We Ready?’ and colleagues from Funeral Homes across the area will be coming together to help organise the following events:

  • Coffee and cake event at Minworth Funeral Home at Enterprise House, Kingsbury Road, from 11am to 2pm on Friday, 17 May
  • Open day event at Nechells Funeral Home, in Great Brook Street, from 12pm to 3pm on Wednesday, 15 May
  • Coffee morning at Warwick Road Funeral Home, in Solihull, from 9.30am to 11am on Tuesday, 14 May
  • Coffee and cake event at Great Barr Funeral Home, in Walsall Road, from 10am to 12pm on Friday, 17 May
  • Open afternoon at Boldmere Funeral Home, in Boldmere Road, from 2pm on Wednesday, 15 May
  • Open day event at Maypole Funeral Home, in Alcester Road, from 11am on Wednesday, 15 May

Funeral director Thomas McNally said: “We are pleased to be able to support Dying Matters Awareness Week in Birmingham and Solihull and talk to local communities about bereavement, the importance of funeral planning and how families can create a truly unique tailor-made service.

“At Central England Co-operative, we are passionate about arranging a funeral that helps families honour the person they have lost in the right way.

“The Society also prides itself on being an active and important part of the local community and colleagues regularly take part in volunteering, organise fund-raisers for local good causes and also host special Forget Me Not groups to allow people who have lost a loved one a place to come together and talk.

“We cannot wait to welcome members of the public to our events and try and dispel the myths and taboos around talking about funerals.”

The events will provide information on funeral planning, pre-paid funeral plans and any other information people wish to ask.

Colleagues will also speak about encouraging people to record their free Funeral Wishes, using an easy to complete online form to ensure that the wishes of those who have passed away are honoured.

Central England Co-operative Funeralcare offers a 24-hour service, seven days a week. In addition to arranging funerals, the teams are also able to offer advice on floral tributes, monumental masonry, funeral stationery, pre-paid funeral plans and probate advice.
