Central England Co-operative funeralcare staff dig deep to help spruce up community church in Leicestershire

Staff from McCartney’s Funeral Service swapped their work clothes for gardening gear as they volunteered to help spruce up a church.

Four members of the team, from the Central England Co-operative home in Coventry Road, Hinckley, have been helping out at St Peter's church, in Aston Flamville.

The group have cleared the cemetery grounds and painted railings in a bid to support the busy community facility.

Terry Clarke, from McCartney’s, said: “We decided to get involved after an appeal was put out for people to come up with volunteering ideas.

“We went down to the church and spoke to the warden and before you knew it we were painting railings and cleaning up the cemetery.

“We all had a good time and it felt great to be helping the community in which we serve.”
Church warden Robin Wilson said: “I was hugely impressed by the positive 'can do' attitude of the group and they were a huge credit to McCartney's.”
