Central England Co-operative set to invest £300,000 after purchasing Yorkshire food store

Central England Co-operative is delighted to announce that the Society has purchased the Budgens store in High Street, Dodworth. 

The current Budgens store will celebrate with an official re-opening at 9am on Friday, 7 July, following a £300,000 investment to provide a wide range of products and services to meet the needs of the local community. 

Fixtures and fittings will include the latest in energy efficient refrigeration and LED lighting. 

The existing 19 strong store team will receive extensive training ready for opening and will be on hand to answer any questions from local residents.  The Society is also creating a host of new roles at the store.

To mark the official opening, a special ribbon cutting ceremony will take place and the first 50 shoppers to head through the doors will be handed a golden ticket with which they could win a variety of prizes including a 40” Smart LED TV, smoothie maker, barbecue, Co-operative gift vouchers or an Irresistible Fairtrade chocolate bar.

The Dodworth food store will trade from 8am – 10pm Monday-Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday. The store will offer a wide range of products from everyday necessities to something a little more special. The store offer will include fresh and local fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery offering breads and pastries, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product, Irresistible product ranges, My Coffee Station, and a great selection of cold food to go. 

The store will also offer Paypoint, Collect Plus, lottery, foreign currency, a free car park and a free cash machine.

In the past six months alone, the Society has handed out over £109,000 between 60 diverse projects from across 16 counties as part of its Community Dividend Fund. Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are handed out every three months to a wide range of applicants. 

The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities in a bid to help projects to thrive from the Midlands to the East Coast.
