Fund-raising runners in Bungay set to be given a goodie bag booster

An annual fund-raising race in Bungay that will see 600 people take part has been given a funding boost from Central England Co-operative.

The grant from the Eastern Membership and Community Council will be used to support the Bungay Half Marathon, which is taking place on April 2, and includes a 10k race and a family fun run.

The £600 will be used towards providing goodie bags for runners which include bananas, water and a health bar from the Co-op Food Store in Bungay.

Teresa Bailey-Green, Branch Manager at Co-operative Travel, in Beccles, was a driving force in securing the funding for the event.

She said: “I joined the Bungay Black Dog Running Club a few months ago and have entered in to run the 10K alongside my husband, who unfortunately was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over 10 years ago.

“We thought backing the event would be a great way to support a fantastic community event while talking being an ethical and responsible retailer.”

Teresa’s husband Terry and his daughter Tanya are also registered to run the London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK.

Karen Ball, Member and Community Relations Officer, said: “The Co-operative has a long tradition of giving back to the community, and we welcome the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives and education of local people.

“It is really important to have strong links with the local community and I am proud the Eastern Membership and Community Council were able to support the Bungay Marathon.”
