Central England Co-operative Funeralcare has used its community links to help a local good cause in Yaxley.

Barbara Claypole, an arranger at MJ Claypole Funeral Directors, based in Main Street, organised a special garden party to help raise funds after the Yaxley Scout and

Guides headquarters was victim of an arson attack - efforts have been made since to try and raise money to rebuild and restock the premises.

The event was held at the funeral home, and helped raise £650 towards the rebuilding works.

The day involved a 1950s singer, horse and carriage rides, tombolas and refreshments.

Niki Roberts, Funeral Director, said: “MJ Claypole Funeral Directors is very much at the heart of the community of Yaxley.

“MJ Claypole is based in a beautiful thatched cottage with a huge garden and we have long been hoping to hold an event there, so with the scouts and guides in need of help, we came up with the idea of holding a garden party.

“Lots of people turned out to join-in the fun and we raised £650.

“I would like a big thank you Barbara Claypole for her organisation of this event – she truly is an amazing lady.”

Miss Roberts and Mrs Claypole recently presented a cheque to the Yaxley Scout and Guides group and were delighted to learn that the money is already being used to aid the rebuilding works.
