A lucky Staffordshire woman said she ‘could not believe it’ after finding out she had won a £1,000 holiday thanks to a visit to her local Central England Co-op Food Store.

Grandmother Viv Watkins, from Croxton, was presented with her prize at the retailer’s Eccleshall Supermarket where she is a regular customer after she was drawn out as a winner in a special competition run over the Easter period.

Mrs Watkins will use her prize to take her son, daughter-in-law and her three grandchildren on holiday and she said she did not believe it was true when she heard about the win.

She said: “I didn’t believe it to be honest – this sort of thing doesn’t happen to me. When I told my son the first thing my granddaughter said was ‘who is she taking with her?!’. I’m looking forward to taking the family away on a nice holiday.

“I’m a regular customer to the Eccleshall store and the staff are always really friendly and helpful, so it’s nice to come in and receive the prize from them.”

The competition run by the retailer was open to shoppers who had previously subscribed to receive emails and 10 prizes were up for grabs in total, from a £1,000 holiday to £1,000 in food vouchers and a brand new iPhone XS, with winners drawn from across the country.

Paige Horton, Duty Manager at Central England Co-op’s Stafford Street Supermarket in Eccleshall, said she was delighted to present the prize to Viv.

She said: “We were really happy to hear that one of our regular customers had won such a great prize as the team and I are proud to be part of such a great community in Eccleshall. I hope Viv and her family have a fantastic time on their holiday.”
