Central Co-op is excited to announce the opening of nominations for the 2024 elections, filling positions on the Society's Board of Directors and the Membership & Community Councils (MCCs). These councils play a crucial role in making a positive impact on local communities within the Central Co-op trading estate.

Nominations will be accepted from Wednesday 31st January until 5pm on Friday 23rd February. The voting period will commence on Tuesday 2nd April and conclude at noon on Monday 29th April, with results being announced on Friday 3rd May. All eligible Members - those holding a £1 share for a minimum of 6 months - are invited to participate in the voting process.

The Board of Directors holds a key position in guiding Central Co-op, with several openings available in the regions where the Society operates. The Board's responsibility includes shaping the strategic direction of Central Co-op and ensuring adherence to co-operative values and principles, all aimed at creating a sustainable Society for all.

The Membership & Community Councils (MCCs) consist of Members dedicated to making a positive difference at a local level. Council Members actively contribute to organising and planning events, collaborating with schools, supporting charitable causes and engaging with various community groups to drive meaningful change.

This year there are five board vacancies, comprising three Member positions and two Employee Member positions, while there are 60 vacancies for MCCs across Central Co-op’s Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western and Yorkshire regions, providing numerous opportunities for involvement.

Andrew Seddon, Society Secretary, said: “As a co-operative, we are much more than our stores and funeral homes - we hope to play an impactful part in the communities we trade in. Our annual elections are a great way for Members to get their voices heard and make their mark by standing for election on both the Board of Directors and the Membership & Community Council. It’s these positions that help drive Central Co-op forward, while still remaining true to our core values.”

To find out more about the elections, please visit Central Co-op’s election page, or for further details on the Society’s initiatives, head to the Central Co-op website, or find on socials. Details on becoming a Member can be found on the Membership site.
