Save the Products You Love with Fairtrade Fortnight at Central Co-op

Fairtrade Fortnight is a yearly event that highlights the importance of Fairtrade products worldwide, and from 27th February to 12th March, Central Co-op is once again joining in the Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations with a variety of festivities.

The theme this year is how the small switch to Fairtrade supports producers can help protect the future of some of our most-loved products and the planet, including bananas, coffee, and flowers.

Throughout Fairtrade Fortnight Central Co-op Members can enjoy 20% off Fairtrade wines, including the Red Vergelegen Cabernet Merlot Fairtrade 2019 that wine writer Ned Halley named in his top supermarket wines for 2023.

Members can also save across a variety of Fairtrade products as a part of the extended Member offers launched this month, as a pack of 80 Fairtrade teabags is down to £1.00 from £1.40 for Members, while Fairtrade Gold coffee is down from £3.60 to £3.00. A small pack of Fairtrade bananas is also £0.75 for Members, down from £1.05.

On 2nd March Central Co-op will be hosting a virtual wine tasting to showcase some of these Fairtrade wines, and it is free to attend. Those interested just need to sign up to the event page and then come along to learn about how to test wines, and how purchasing responsibly can have an impact on the lives of Fairtrade farmers and workers who grow the grapes.

Throughout the fortnight Central Co-op's Member & Community Relations Officers (MCROs) will be hosting a variety of local events across the Society’s operating area, getting schools and community groups involved in Fairtrade and how they can help protect the products they love.

The Central Co-op Fairtrade site has even more for customers and Members to enjoy, including recipes like chocolate chip banana bread and banana ice cream, along with profiles on farmers benefitting from Fairtrade sales, and even a colouring competition open until 13th March, giving budding artists a chance to win £50 of Fairtrade products.

For further details, head to the Central Co-op website, Facebook, and Twitter. Details on becoming a Member can be found on the Membership site
