The Vegetarian Society’s National Vegetarian Week is this week – 15th to 21st May – and is all about eating veggie, cutting carbon, and driving change, which is why Central Co-op is getting involved with plenty of vegetarian products to help those looking to make the switch.

The Central Co-op site hosts many vegetarian recipes, including BBQ Cauliflower Steaks, Asparagus Omelette, and Celeriac and Chilli Gratin, but those looking for an easier option can enjoy ready-made meals like Co-op Tomato & Mozzarella Penne, at 2 for £6.

Many ingredients for delicious vegetarian meals are discounted for Members too, as a simple Vegetable Frittata can be made with:

  • Trio of Onions (reduced from £1.00 to 0.75 for Members)
  • Broccoli (reduced from £0.80 to £0.50 for Members)
  • Sweet & Crunchy Salad (reduced from £1.20 to 75p for Members)
  • Frozen Peas (reduced from £1.10 to 75p for Members)
  • Mature Cheese (reduced from £3.00 to £2.00 for Members)
  • Plain White Flour (reduced from £1.00 to £0.75 for Members)
  • Six Medium Eggs (reduced from £1.70 to £1.00 for Members)
  • Four-pint Semi-Skimmed Milk (reduced from £1.85 to £1.50 for Members)
  • Co-op Spreadable (reduced from £3.35 to £2.50 for Members)

Central Co-op's purpose of creating a sustainable Society for all doesn’t stop with vegetarian food though, as the Society recently celebrated 160,000 meals saved from going to waste via its partnership with Too Good To Go. This partnership means that Central Co-op's customers and Members can pick up a Magic Bag of discounted food at the end of the day to avoid it going to waste.

In 2022 Central Co-op also signed a partnership with Sol PV Group to deliver over 12MWp of Solar PV systems across its property portfolio, amounting to carbon savings of around 3,450 tonnes per year.
